Day 1 Algiers
Arrive in Algiers and transfer to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you will take a city tour, which may include visits to the historic Notre Dame d’Afrique, the Grande Poste, and the Palais des Rais. For those with early morning arrivals, you may want to spend the afternoon on a tour through the historic UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah.
Day 2 Algiers – Tipaza – Tomb of the Christian – Annaba
After breakfast, you will depart for the UNESCO World Heritage Roman site of Tipaza. Located beside the clear Mediterranean Sea and mountains, Tipaza is surrounded by incredible natural beauty. Here you will visit the museum and the archeological site, which includes the largest basilica in North Africa and the Basilica of St Salsa, who was a local martyr in the 4th century. On your way back to Algiers stop at the Tombeau de la Chrétienne (royal mausoleum of Mauritania).
Take an evening flight to Annaba and transf er to the hotel.
Day 3 Annaba – Constantine
In the morning, explore the museum and site of Hippo Regius and the Cathedral of St. Augustine. The museum at Hippo Regius hosts large mosaics found in the region. Be sure to visit the ruins of the ‘Basilica of Peace’ where St. Augustine was bishop in the 5th century. The Cathedral of St. Augustine was built between 1881 and 1900 and the many stain-glass windows tell the story of the early Church Father, St. Augustine. When you are ready continue to Constantine for the night.
Day 4 Constantine
Christian basilica, and the Roman houses. After your visit, return back to Constantine for a city tour. Constantine is sure to impress any visitor as it is located above the Rhumel Gorge. Some of the sites may include the museum of Cirta, explore the suspension bridges, the Kasbah, and the Palace of Ahmed Bey.
Day 5 Constantine – Timgad – Lambaesis – Batna
You will want to get an early start today to travel south to the unforgettable historical and archeological sites of Timgad and Lambaesis. Before you reach Timgad stop at Medracen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is 58 meters in diameter and 19 meters tall. Then travel to the UNESCO site of Timgad, begun by Emperor Trajan in AD100. Here you will discover the library, temples, amphitheater, arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas.
If you have time in the day go and visit the large Roman legionary located at Lambaesis.
Day 6 Batna – Djemila – Setif
Begin the day with a drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Djemila, meaning ‘Beautiful’ in Arabic. The site lives up to its name as it is uniquely situated amongst rolling hills. You will have a guided visit of both the museum and the historic site. Explore the forum, basilicas, baptisteries, arch of Caracalla, Temple des Septimes, well-preserved Roman market, and theatre.
Your next stop will be the city of Setif where you will take a guided tour through the Museum of Archaeology in Setif and see the grand mosaic called ‘The Triumph of Dionysos.’
Day 7 Setif – Algiers
Today you will either take a domestic flight or transfer by road, back to Algiers in the morning. Once you have arrived in Algiers we will explore the museums and city sites. If you missed the Kasbah on day 1 we will be sure to include it on this day. The Bardo Museum, and the Museum of Archaeology and Islamic Art are both well worth the visits!
Day 8 Departuter from Algiers
If you have time before your flight you will take a guided city tour in Algiers.
Your guide will take you to the airport for your departure flight.
